The only way you can guarantee the jigsaw is complete is to physically do the jigsaw. Some jigsaws, particularly, Waddingtons & Tower Press jigsaws, have pieces with five connectors so even if you do the border and count the rest, you're not certain it's complete. For example; some 500 pieced ones may have 502 pieces even the border is 20 x 26

Noun. ( en noun ) Anything that is difficult to understand or make sense of. Where he went after he left the house is a puzzle. A game for one person that is more or less difficult to work out or complete. A crossword puzzle. A jigsaw puzzle. A riddle. (archaic) Something made with marvellous skill; something of ingenious construction.

Examples include jigsaw puzzles, nail puzzles, Rubik’s Cubes. Probably the most common variant of puzzle; I expect most puzzlers consider a jigsaw piece as the “logo” for puzzling. These can be solved through trial-and-error, but particularly for Rubik’s cube-type puzzles there can be mathematical/logical methods for a solution as well.

Defined broadly, Jigsaw is a grouping strategy in which the members of the class are organized into "jigsaw" groups. The students are then reorganized into "expert" groups containing one member from each jigsaw group. The members of the expert group work together to learn the material or solve the problem, then return to their "jigsaw" groups

Physical Puzzles. Physical puzzles are divided into two categories, namely, inset puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. The difference is that jigsaw puzzle pieces connect, whereas inset puzzle pieces are generally non-connecting. See also 21 Toys For 4-Year-Old Girls.
